A Message From

Mr. Andrews and Ms. Martinez

Our Mission

Through a comprehensive and developmental approach school counselors work with students to develop educational, career, and personal/social skills that help each child to be a quality student. The school counseling program is proactive and preventative in nature. Through collaborating with teachers and consulting with other staff members, counselors work to eliminate the barriers that keep children from reaching their full potential.

Our Vision

The students at Swans Creek Elementary School are diverse learners who possess unique interests, abilities and goals. The school counseling program will guide them through a course of studies designed to prepare them for successful and fulfilling careers and help them to be valued members of their community.

The School Counseling program at Swans Creek Elementary School is based on the American School Counseling Association Model and our district standards. It includes a variety of services for ALL students and is designed to assist with interests and issues related to the stages of student growth in the areas of academic, career, personal, emotional, and social development. The following services will be offered for the 2023-2024 school year:

Small group counseling sessions, with parent permission, for students focusing on divorce, grief, study skills, friendship/social skills, and anger management. If you feel that your child needs assistance in any of these areas, please let us know. Individual meetings to help students adjust to school or help with personal issues on an as-needed basis. Classroom guidance lessons with emphasis on personal/social skills, bullying prevention, child protection, academic development (study skills), and career awareness. We see every class in the building at least once a month.

Referral assistance to other programs and services in the community.

If you have any questions regarding the counseling program, please contact the school at 703-445-0930 or you can email us directly at, Mr. Andrews [email protected] or Ms. Martinez [email protected] We look forward to working together with you this year to help ensure your child’s success in school and life in general.
