My name is Ruth Whitton. I’m a mother of 3, a wife, and I’m your Parent Liaison. My mission is to serve as trusted partners in education with our students, families, and community.
What does a Parent Liaison do?
We create a welcoming school environment for all families; provides Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) information and resources to families; conducts outreach through a variety of communications to empower families to be actively engaged in their students’ education; builds relationships with and among families, staff, and community members; promotes understanding of families’ cultural diversity; provides information about and connects families to community resources; and works collaboratively with school administration to address family issues and concerns at the school.
How can I support you?
· Encourage open communication between you and school personnel.
· Provides information about PWCS and the school.
· Directs families to appropriate PWCS and community resources for information and resolution of concerns.
· Plans, schedules, organizes, and participates in delivering a variety of school/community outreach programs, including one-on-one consultations, small meetings, presentations, and workshops for families and staff members.
· Provides interpreting services as needed within a school for parent/teacher conferences, and meetings.
